The scramble officially started in 2019 in a two-person scramble format, and invites were sent out via text message. A total of around eight family members played in the first scramble.
The first group email was sent out to invite all family and anyone to play. The scramble was played in June in the afternoon, with around 12 players.
This year marked the first year of The Masters® parody logo featuring Rough River Lake and the hole marking the location of the The Falls of Rough golf course. The parody slogan was first used, A Tradition Like Many Others. The Golden Plaque was established as a trophy. The scramble was again played in the summer in July, but in the morning, with a total of 23 players.
The free-hosted website made its first appearance in 2022, to streamline player data, sign ups, and to relay information in real time. The scramble was moved to two weeks after Derby, that Saturday at 8 AM. The amount of players approached 30 people. The first player survey was used to model future decisions for the next scrambles. The two-putt rule was banned after a heated debate at Christi's Cafe, one day before the scramble.
This year marked the departure from email use to organize the scramble. The website and group SMS managed communications. Raffles not based on team placement or performance were first used this year. Special edition golf balls with the parody logo were included in the green fee/buy in.
The Family Scramble at Lafayette Golf Ball
This year marked the fifth anniversary of the scramble with special edition hats. Each edition of hat had the parody logo embroidered on the signature white with green and yellow colorway. The player amount ballooned to just under 40 people. The Peter Putter, a putter like no other, made its first and last appearance this year. Some players speculate a fix was in to keep a three-peat from happening. The Scramble made its debut in ATA Films' Rough River Lake 7.
The Family Scramble at Lafayette Hat
This year a dedicated website is introduced.
